The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona February 4, 2003 Max Charles Richards, of Young, passed away February 1, 2003. He was born in Tucson on February 5, 1938 and spent his childhood in Globe, graduating from Globe High School, before going on to Arizona State University and New York University Law School. He practiced law in Tucson for twenty seven years before retiring to Young in 1998. Max was a member of the Gila County Planning and Zoning Commission and past member of the Young Public Library Board. While living in Tucson, he was a member of the Tucson Rotary Club, and on the Board of Directors of Tucson Youth Football, Arizona Youth Soccer Organization and Christ Church United Methodist. While attending ASU, he served as student body vice president and student chairman of the Name Change Committee, which was instrumental in getting a statewide vote to determine the name change from College to University. He is survived by his wife Barbara, of Young; three sons, Max C. Richards (Anna Marie Salas) of Tucson, William Richards (Janet) of Phoenix, and Brian Richards of Kirkland WA; two step-children, Barry Devenney (Stacey) of Seattle, and Lauri Devenney of Phoenix; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Katherine Haynes (John) of Nashville, Tennessee. Memorial service will be held at the First Christian Church, 401 South Broad Street, Globe Arizona, on Saturday, February 8, 2003 at 11:00. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Parsonage Fund of the First Christian Church. Arrangements by Messinger Indian School Mortuary.
