The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ October 1, 2003, p. B7 The Reverend Thomas Cleland Winn of Willsboro, N.Y. passed away after a long illness on Sept. 29, 2003. He was born in Kangai, Korea on March 10, 1920 son of George H. and Blanche (Essick) Winn. Tom came to the United States in 1936 and graduated from Asbury College, received a Masters of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary and a Masters degree in Education from SUNY at Albany. His family has been connected with the Presbyterian Church and their missionary work in the Far East for five generations. Tom served as minister in Westfield, N.J. and in Rhinebeck, N.Y. Later he served as Chaplain in the Hill School in Pottstown, Pa. He also was a guidance counselor and science teacher at the Milne School in Albany, N.Y. and in career placement at SUNY Albany. As a talented young artist (age 12), he was the first non-Asian admitted to the Imperial Art Exhibit in Seoul, Korea. In his youth Tom loved hiking and outdoor activities. During his adult years he introduced his family to the excitement of downhill skiing and adventures in the west. His love for the Adirondacks and the Lake Champlain area brought him back where he continued his love of gardening, storytelling and jokes. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Florence (Grubb) Winn of Willsboro, N.Y., his daughter Laurie Adams and her husband Mike of Milton, Vt., his daughter Carol Blakeley and her husband Rick of Wickenburg, Ariz. and seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Sarah, and Phoebe, Tim, Jane, Ben and Daniel, and 13 great grandchildren. His sister Julia McPheeters of Willsboro, N.Y., his sister-in-law Marcia Winn and several nieces and nephews also survive him. Services are pending and will be announced shortly. In lieu of flowers our father's sincere wish was for friends to "do something nice for someone." If that includes a contribution, please make it payable to: High Peaks Hospice, Box 195 Mineville, NY 12956. They have been incredibly kind. |
