The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ October 8, 2003, p. B7 Alice Jean Vance, 71, passed away on Oct. 6, 2003 at the Sun Grove Village Residential Facility in Peoria after a long illness. Jean was born Sept. 17, 1932 in Frankford, Ind. to James and Bessie Connor. Jean was the sister to Dale and Phillip, affectionately known as "Pinky." They could tell many stories about each other. Jean followed her two brothers to serve in the military. She served in the U.S. Women's Army Corps or WACS where she schooled and served as a dental technician from 1951 to 1952. It was in the Army that she met her husband of 37 years, Sergeant Donald Vance, Sr. They traveled for 20 years in the Army, serving tours in Germany and across the United States. While in Germany, they adopted their two sons, Patrick and Donald Jr. She was the epitome of an Army wife, raising two young boys while Donald Sr. served in Vietnam. After Donald Sr. retired, they moved to Yarnell, but she continued with the Army family when the boys entered the military. Patrick served 10 years and Donald Jr. 27 years. She showed great courage and faith during the sudden passing of son Patrick in 1986 and Donald Sr. in 1989. She is also preceded in death by her parents and brother Dale. She is survived by son Donald Jr.; brother Phillip; and four grandchildren, Christopher, Tanya, Michael and William. Call Frey Funeral Home for date and time of services.
