The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ November 19, 2003, B10 William J. Zundel was taken back to his heavenly father on Nov. 10, 2003. He was 84. Bill, as he was affectionately known, succumbed to a six-year and often successful, struggle with cancer. Bill was a compassionate, loving, generous and deeply faithful man. He stood as a symbol of strength and courage to all who knew him. His loving wife, Helen, preceded him in death by 12 years. His sister, Ruth Heine of Sun City West, and his sister-in-law, Elenore Rhodes of Sacramento, survive him. Additionally, he is missed by his extended family including Art, Rose and Victor Pfluger of Morristown, James (Butch) and Julian Rhodes of Sacramento, as well as his fishing buddy, Ken Murray. Bill's sister Ruth and her husband Harold Heine, who is deceased, provided deep, meaningful, generous and courageous memories to all. Their loving kindness for Bill was beyond expression. Butch especially remembers Uncle Bill and grew close to Bill in his last years. He also has meaningful memories as a child, of Bill and his dear Aunt Helen. Both of them will remain in his heart forever. Bill donated much of his time and energy to his favorite charities. He founded the Wickenburg area Habitat for Humanity and served as its first president. He was also involved in Sun Health Hospice, First Presbyterian Churches of Wickenburg and Wheaton, Ill., the Sun Health Foundation, the Arizona Chapter of the Salvation Army, and the Westside Food Bank. Any remembrances may be given to any of these fine charities. Bill gave us all an example of the power of faith, generosity and selfless giving through the compassionate care of his wife during her illness. His later years were a spiritual journey that he pursued with ardor and compassion. His final gift truly reflected his belief that if we all would take only our share there would be enough for everyone. Bill, you have been an inspiration to all who knew you and those who were lucky enough to be part of your family of friends. A memorial service for Bill will be held Friday, Nov. 21 at 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Wickenburg. Rev. James Longstreet will officiate. Wickenburg Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements. |
