Wayne Alan Colburn of Scottsdale, Arizona passed away on February 2, 2003.

He was born on September 10, 1947 in Allegan, Michigan to Albert (Burton) and Vena Wilson Colburn.

He is survived by his loving wife Gail and their children Kurt (wife Kim), Trent, and Adrian (husband Jeffrey), his beloved mother Vena, his brother Larry (wife Carol), two grandchildren Hannah and Clara, nephew Chris, and several loving aunts and cousins.

Wayne grew up in Michigan and graduated from Portage High School. He attended Albion State University, graduating with his bachelor's in Biology. He worked as a research biochemist at the Upjohn Company in Kalamazoo, Michigan, before attending State University of New York in Buffalo, where he received his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics in 1977.

He worked for Hoffman-La Roche, Inc. in Nutley, New Jersey doing research in the field of Pharmacokinetics/Biopharma-ceutics before moving to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he worked for Warner-Lambert Parke-Davis as a Drug Development Project Manager.

Wayne and Gail fulfilled a dream when they moved to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1990. Wayne worked for MDS Harris where he was Vice-President and Senior Research Fellow for the past thirteen years. Wayne has had many professional and personal accomplishments, which he worked hard at to achieve. He was president of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology (ACCP) and Editor of the Journal of Clinical Pharmacology. He was a National Institute of Health reviewer and an adjunct professor for several universities. He had published more than 260 original research articles, reviews, and book chapters throughout his career. He was recognized with the Lewis E. Harris Award for Excellence in 1995 and the American College of Clinical Pharmacology Nathaniel T. Kwit Memorial Distinguished Service Award in 1998.

Wayne was a dedicated individual who enhanced the lives of those around him both personally and professionally. He loved to travel with his wife, work, golf, watch sports, and completely adored his grandchildren.

Both his family and his friends will miss his love, friendship, and support.

A visitation will be held on Friday, February 7 from 5-8 PM and Saturday, February 8 from 2-3 PM at Messingers Funeral Home, 8555 E. Pinnacle Peak Road Scottsdale, AZ.

There will be a memorial service held at the same location on February 8 at 3:00 PM.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Wayne A. Colburn Memorial Scholarship fund in care of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology (ACCP), 3 Ellinwood Court New Hartford, New York 13413-1105.
