Edward L. McDevitt, 75, of Phoenix, passed away January
26, 2003.

He served in the US Army.

Honor Service will be held February 7, 2003, 1pm at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, Arrangements.

Edward Lee McDevitt, 75, died Jan. 26, 2003 at the Carl T. Hayden V.A. Medical center in Phoenix. His place of interim will be the National Cemetery in Phoenix.

He was born June 8, 1927 in Purcell, Oklahoma to Martha and John Devitt. He honored his family and country by serving in World War II and in Korea. He lived most of his life in Arizona. He worked as a forest ranger and as a deputy with the Sheriff's Department in Coconino County. HE supported his family with his talents in food service opening the Burger Box in Flagstaff in the early 60s. He was also a gifted locksmith serving such institutions as Mingus Union High School, Northern Arizona University and W L Gore and Associates.

Edward was a lover of music and dance. He played the violin and harmonica much to his children's delight. He was an avid chess player and reader. History was a passion of his. He was a very educated man holding degrees in Psychology, Philosophy, and History.

He is survived by his daughter, Shannon Young of Sedona; daughter Eilene McDevitt-Knaack and son Shawn McDevitt, both of St. Johns; and nine beautiful grandchildren, all of whom will greatly miss their papa.

Words of honor and praise often come too late. Papa you are loved and admired more than words can express. You are a hero!
