The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona February 7, 2003 George McCain, 84, of Glendale made a peaceful crossing last Saturday, February 1, 2003, at Life Care Center of North Glendale. A fighter 'til the end, he amazed staff and family alike with his resilience and determination to live every minute of life that he possibly could. A Navy veteran of World War II, George earned his B.S. in electrical engineering in 1950 and continued to serve his country for the rest of his career. He spent several years in Japan in the 1950s and continued his civil service at the Pacific Missile Test Range at Point Mugu, CA. While in Japan, he met and married his beloved wife Tamiko who gave birth to their daughter Mimi. Tamiko preceded George to the other side of life two years ago and undoubtedly added a sense of peace and love to his passing. In spite of their youth being marred by poverty, economic depression, and war, they never lost sight of their values. They always served as stellar examples of determination, perseverance, hard work, and always doing the right thing. Their energy lives on in the positive effect they produced on all who knew them. George, one of seven children, was born in Memphis and is survived by his sister Pearl, and brothers Henry, Harding, and Calvin. His daughter Mimi will preside over his memorial service this Friday, February 7th at the Heritage Funeral Chapel, 6830 W. Thunderbird, 3pm. Condolences can be sent to Mimi McCain, 13213 N. 55th Avenue, Glendale, AZ 85304. (Obit: Courtesy of Pat Wilson) |
