William Dean, Sr. Sikes

William Dean Sikes Sr., of Sun City was released from his long and courageous battle with cancer on Jan. 30, 2003.

Born in Mayville N. Dakota on Sept. 11, 1926 to Lewis J. Sikes and Josephine Jeanette Ledbetter.

He is survived by his wife of 57 yrs, Mickey (Thelma M. Hardin), two daughters Jeanette Jones of Phoenix and Sandra Gray of Denver, a son
William Dean Sikes II of San Diego. Six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a sister Vernabel (John) Moran-Bradenton Fla. and two brothers Jack, Fla. and Calvin, Indiana.

He enlisted in the Air Force in 1944 after graduating from Attica High School in Indiana and as the war ended so did his training to become an Air Force pilot. After his Training in the Air Force was completed he went on to Purdue University where he was elected president of Delta Rho Kappa National Honor Society his senior year. He graduated from Purdue University in 1956. After graduating from Purdue he worked for RR Donnelly Printing Company in Crawfordsville, Indiana.

He and his wife owned and operated the Dairy Queen in Crawfordsville for 14 years. He was active in many civic organizations and was elected to the Crawfordsville City Council in 1959-1963. They moved to Florida in 1978, to Denver in 1981 and then to Sun City AZ. in 1993.

He has donated his body to the Science Care of Phoenix.

A private Family memorial will be held at a later date.

The Family asked that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Hospice of the Valley Peoria Renal Cell Carcinoma Research or a charity of your choice.
