Hortensia (Arellano) Varela

Hortensia Varela, 83, passed away quietly Monday, January 6, 2003. She was born April 21, 1919 in Springer, New Mexico to Candido and Ramona Arellano.

She has lived in Arizona 65 years where she met and married Joseph Varela in 1942. They settled in Cottonwood, Arizona, and later in Bisbee, Arizona.

She is survived by three sons, Manuel of Tempe, David and his wife Charlotte of Tempe and Richard of Denver, Colo.; two sisters Lydia Martinez, and Odella Arellano of Superior, Az. and brother Henry Arellano of La Mesa, Calif. Hortensia was loved by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held Friday, January 10, 2003 11:00 a.m. at Tempe Mortuary, 405 E. Southern Ave., Tempe, Az.
