Ervin Frank Kiefer

Posted 2009-12-13 by Pat Wilson
Ervin Frank Kiefer, 83, of Phoenix AZ, passed away December 13, 2000. Born in Tilden, Ill. on July 7, 1917, he lost both his parents at an early age, and grew up in an orphanage.

He joined the army in 1939, later serving in Normandy and Central Europe, where he earned silver and bronze battle stars.

He met and married June Meyers while he was in the service and after the war, Erv and June settled in Illinois, where their three daughters were born. He moved the family to Arizona in 1952, and worked at a variety of occupations, owned and operated a Dairy Queen in Glendale, and finally retired from the City of Phoenix in 1979. His passion was rock-hounding, and he and June, often accompanied by Wilbur and Rose, his brother and sister-in-law, took many adventurous trips together. June passed away in 1985, cutting those travels short, far too soon. He'll be missed by family, friends, and neighbors, though we take comfort, knowing that he and June are finally together again.

He is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Clark and Jill Quinn, his brother, Wilbur Kiefer, his sister, Amelita Burt, and 5 grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2000, at Resthaven Park Cemetery in Glendale.
