Sammie Virginia "Ginny" Thompson, of Tucson AZ, went to be with her Lord Jesus on Feb. 5, 2003. Ginny was born on January 19, 1920 in Tempe, AZ.

She is survived by her wonderful angel husband, Tommy; son, Stephen Thompson and his wife Tanya; brother, Robert Wallace; sister, Gwen Laber; grandchildren, Tatiana, Destinee, and Airlia Thompson, also Shawn, Courtney and Ashley Grace.

She is preceded in death by her lovely daughter, Sheri Lynn, who passed away in 1999 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Her family will remember her as a wife, mother, teacher, friend, cook, party thrower and gardener extraordinaire. She grew up in Mesa, AZ with her family near Gilbert and University Roads when Mesa was a small little town.

She married her sweetheart Tommy in 1948. They met in an Airforce dance in Denver, Colorado, where they were to draw names for a dancing partner. Mom drew Scarlet O'Hare and fortuitously, dad drew Rhett Butler. Together they raised two children, Sheri and Stephen. They were to celebrate 56 years of marriage this May 6th. She went on to obtain her teaching degree at the University of Arizona and taught elementary education for twelve years in the Mesa School District. Ginny was an incredible teacher working with mainstream schools and with special needs children at MARC in Mesa, AZ. She was a "Pink Lady" volunteer at Mesa Lutheran Hospital, caring for those in need.

She also had an incredible green thumb which kept her busy along with making special outfits for all of her grandchildren. Her wonderful laugh and beautiful blue eyes will be missed by all who knew her.

Dear mother, you are at peace now and you do not have to struggle anymore. Be free and be with your Lord Jesus. Say "Hi" to Sheri and Satcho from all of us. We love you and miss you so, mom.

Visitation will be held on Monday, Feb. 10th from noon-1pm at Meldrum Mortuary Chapel, 52 N. MacDonald, Mesa, AZ.

Funeral services will immediately follow at the mortuary. Interment will be at the City of Mesa Cemetery at the conclusion of the services.
