John Clayton Brown, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend passed away on February 6, 2003.

He was born on December 3, 1924 in Kline, Colorado to Robert W. & Amy S. Brown. John was a decendent of five direct lines of Latter-day Saint pioneer families who crossed the plains to Utah. His family were true Arizona pioneers; the Browns who settled in St. Johns in 1880, and the Slades who homesteaded in Eager in the 1880's. He was stricken with polio at the age of three, but lived his life in a full, complete way. He was employed in the wholesale hardware business most of his life.

He was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, filling many responsible positions, including Bishop in La Mirada, CA. He had a great love for missionary work, serving several stake missions, and was a Stake Mission President.

He served a full time mission in 1943 to the eastern States, where he met his sweetheart, Virginia Price. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1945. In 1992 John and Virginia served a mission to Perth, Australia. John enjoyed his time as an ordinance worker in the Arizona Temple. He was very close to both his and Virginia's large extended family and was a loving and kind patriarch of his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Virginia and their seven children, John (Karen), Lee (Gregg) Jensen, Amy (Kent) Dummar, George (Naomi), Irene Brown, Bob (Lynne), Becky (Mike) Fish; 26 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Robert of Utah.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2003 from 6-8:00 PM, Bunker's Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa, AZ (also one hour prior to the service at the church).

Services will be held Monday, February 10, 2003 at 10:00 A.M., The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. Twelve Oaks Chapel, 10 S. Twelve Oaks Blvd., Chandler, AZ.

Graveside services will be held at the St. Johns Cemetery on Tuesday, February 11, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. John was a remarkable man, known for his humor and strength of character. He wil be missed and lovingly remembered by those who had the opportunity to be a part of his life.
