The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona February 9, 2003 William David Lanford (Bill), 48, was born on August 3, 1954 in Buckeye, Arizona and passed away on February 5, 2003. His parents, Raymond and Marjy Lanford, preceded him in death. He leaves his wife of 28 years, Pamela, and daughters, Jamie (Jeffrey) Daniels and Meredith Lanford, and granddaughter, Taryn Rae Daniels, sister, Pam (Rex) Miller and brothers Mike (Melanie) and Randy (Terry) Lanford and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend. He spent his life serving others. He served his community with strength, compassion and enthusiasm. Continuing in his father's footsteps, he was a respected farmer. His love for his community showed through service on the Palo Verde Elementary School Board, the Buckeye Irrigation District, coaching baseball at Buckeye Union High School and selling real estate to name only a few. In 1977 he began serving the Buckeye Valley Fire District as a volunteer firefighter. Bill was elected Chief of this district in 1994, serving in that capacity until his death. He was respected in his field, often sharing his knowledge and expertise locally and nationally. Bill's love for the Lord was evident. As Deacon at the First Southern Baptist Church Bill bore strong witness to others, with a faith that was firm and solid. Bill defined his life by dignity, courage and integrity. His Christ-like presence touched those who knew him. The love for his family and the Lord gave him the strength to stand tall in face of adversity, to plant his feet firm for what was right and to treat others how he wanted to be treated. People pass through our lives like never ending streams. Others stop and touch our hearts with a warmth that never leaves. As we mourn our loss, we know we will be forever changed because he touched our lives. Services will be Monday, February 10, 2003 at 10:30am at the Buckeye First Southern Baptist at the corner of Eason and Third. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Bill Lanford Memorial Fund in care of Buckeye Valley Fire District, P.O. Box 75, Buckeye, Arizona 85326.
