The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Saturday, January 11, 2003 Charles Robert Burns, at the age of 60, went to be with the Lord on January 8, 2003, following a long battle with lymphoma. Charles was a native of Arizona, born on August 1, 1942. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a true man of God. He is survived by his wife, of just under 40 years, Linda Burns, four children, Dawna Swartz, husband Tracy, Chuck Burns, wife, Adelle, Carrie Chase, husband, Andy and Joey Burns, wife, Michelle, and ten grandchildren; his twin brother, John Burns and younger sister Martha Burns. Charles owned and operated Burns Brothers Farms with his brother John for 39 years. He prided himself in producing excellent crops and loved every facet of life on the farm. A proud member of the Church of the Nazarene, Charles was a hands on board member for many years. He cherished the life of the church and was always available for ministry. Charles's love for people took him around the world to help on numerous mission projects in third world countries. Charles served as a school board member for the Peoria Unified School District for 16 years. He led by his convictions and focused on the well being of the students. Charles loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing in mountain streams, elk hunting in Colorado and family camping trips. He was always thankful to find a good Mexican food restaurant, watch a Bill Gaither video, and to fall asleep on a hammock during a rainstorm. Although he will be sorely missed, his suffering is over and the saints that have gone before him have been reunited with an old friend. As a family we thank our many friends, whose support we could not have lived without, and we must thank Desert Samaritan Hospital for their excellent care. Funeral services will be held at the Orangewood Church of the Nazarene, 2728 West Orangewood Avenue on Monday, January 13, 2003, at 2 p.m. A public viewing is scheduled for Sunday, January 12, 2003 from 5-8 p.m., at the Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home, 7924 N. 59th Avenue., Glendale, Az.
