"Jewel Hatch Rogers 1923-2006

Jewel Rogers was born in Taylor, Ariz., on Nov. 19, 1923, to Willard (Rudd) Hatch and Gertrude May Colbath, the fourth of 11 children.

She grew up in Taylor. She met her husband, Herbert Melvin Rogers at Snowflake High School and they were married April 19, 1942, in Holbrook. She and Herb moved to Bisbee in 1955 and they lived there until 1995 when they returned to Taylor.

Jewel passed away at 9:30 p.m., March 23, 2006, at her daughter, Debbie Papa's home in Snowflake.

Jewel was known for her beautiful flowers, landscaping, and garden. She was a woman who was thrifty, ambitious and hard working. She cooked sumptuous meals, canned and bottled everything in sight, and loved her church and family. She also enjoyed quilting, crocheting, camping, singing and especially her children and grandchildren.

Service was a very important part of her life. She served in various callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Relief Society President, Primary teacher, Young Women's Leader and she taught early morning seminary for several years.

Her most favorite calling was serving as choir director of the Bisbee Arizona Ward choir with which she was involved for over 20 years. Jewel was diligent in her Church callings and brought new meaning to the term "manify". Hard work and perfection were her crowning hallmark.

She is survived by three sons, Harlon (Sharon) Rogers of Snowflake; Davis (Lori) Rogers of St. George, Utah; Darell (Tara) Rogers of Albuquerque, N.M.; two daughters, LaNae (Gordon) Mortensen of Queen Creek and Debbie (John) Papa of Snowflake; two sisters, Opal (Al) Cuave of Snowflake and Sheila (Roy) Hall of Taylor; 24 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 8, at the Love Lake Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Taylor. A viewing will be held Friday, April 7, from 6-8 p.m., at Owens Mortuary in Snowflake. Interment will be in the Reed S. Hatch Memorial Cemetery in Taylor.
