Frank L. Crosby, an Arizona pioneer died peacefully into the hands of the Lord May 14, 2008.

His humble beginnings in the Blue Ridge country of Arizona began when the Indians were still picking off the settlers.

He was born Oct. 4, 1917 in Ramah, N.M. and moved with his mother and six siblings to St. Johns, after his father was killed by lightening.

His maternal grandfather, J.D. LeSueur, was sent to Arizona by Brigham Young to help establish Mormon colonies in the Southwest. His paternal grandfather, George Crosby, was a member of the territorial legislature - Frank's long political life in the State Legislature was preceded by, not only his grandfather, but his uncles as well - all of whom were involved in the long fight to divide Apache County - which did ultimately happen resulting in the new County - Navajo.

He and his wife, Dolly, spent many years working side by side in Charlie Clark's "Caf" in Pinetop - subsequently owned by them when Dolly's father - Charlie Clark - passed away. They, along with Dolly's sister & brother in law, Tom and Buddy Wise also maintained Elaine's Dress Shop and Crosby's Men's Store in Pinetop.

Frank was a founder of White Mountain Country Club as well as founder and developer of Pinetop Country Club and also developed Pinetop Hills - the large area between Pinetop and Lakeside which is now home to both commercial and residential real estate.

As the "unofficial" water witch around the White Mountains and many other communities in Arizona, he "witched" many of the wells that provide the water that we all relay on today.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Dolly Clark Crosby.

He is survived by his sister-in-law, Buddy (Clark) Wise; sister-in-law Norma Crosby; his children, son Greg (Connie) Crosby, and his daughter Jan (Michael) Wilson; three grandchildren, Kim (Craig) Wilson, Steven Wilson, Brian Crosby and one great-grandchild Lauren Gaadosik and numerous nieces and nephews.

"We love you Dad and know that you have finally found peace in God's hands. May he bless and keep you."

Family memorial services are pending. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
