John Raymond Isaacson, former St. Johns Mayor and WWII Veteran, peacefully returned to his heavenly home Dec. 5, 2004, from causes incident to old age. A life-long resident of St. Johns, a hometown he loved, he spent his life in service to his God, his fellowmen, and his family.

Always an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in the Northern States Mission, in the bishopric, the High Council, and in many other positions. He is well-remembered for his outstanding Sunday School lessons. He was particularly aware of the needs of the elderly and widowed, giving many hours of service in their behalf.

Raymond touched countless lives as an educator (teacher, coach, principal, guidance counselor) for 35 years. He loved renewing acquaintances with them in later life. He served 14 years on the St. Johns City Council, eight years as the mayor, and considered every member of the community his friend.

Of all his accomplishments, he valued his family the most. As he wrote in his life story, "Without them, I would be nothing."

Raymond is survived by his sweetheart of 65 years, Lorraine King; five children: Sharon Crosby (Steve), Pamela Conant, Bryan (J'net), Ken (Marian), and Craig (Wyolene); 28 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Isaacson was preceded in death by his elder brother, DeMar Isaacson, a grandson, and a great-granddaughter. He is survived by a brother, Leonard Isaacson and a sister, Fernith Saporiti.

Funeral services will be held at the St. Johns, Arizona Downtown Chapel Friday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. Viewing for friends at 1 p.m. prior to service. Please share memories/condolences at brisaacson@yahoo.com or to PO Box 2666, St. Johns, AZ 85936.
