Nicholas (Nick) Jay Patterson

Nicholas "Nick" Jay Patterson, 52, died Sept. 11, 2004 at this home in St. Johns.

Nick was born Feb. 13, 1952 in St. Johns to Jay and Jane (Rigby) Patterson. He graduated from St. Johns High School in 1970. He married Catherine Drain Dec. 27, 1974. Nick graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Accounting. He worked in Phoenix for J. McDonald and Miller and McCollum C.P.A. Accounting firms. In 1979, he and Catherine returned to St. Johns where Nick worked as a salesman for Patterson Motors Company and later promoted to General Manager. In 2000, he was employed as General Manager for Horne Chevrolet in St. Johns.

In 2001, he took a job as Business Manager for the St. Johns School District. He was active in his church, serving a mission in Brussels from 1972-1974; Elders Quorum President; President of Young Men; Executive Secretary; High Priest Group Leader; High Council; Bishop for six and a half years and Stake Presidency Counselor. Nick was a member of Kiwannis and served as past president. He was presently a St. Johns City Councilman. Nick took pride in his community involving himself in the Fourth of July Races and fireworks activities; local school activities; concessions and fund raisers; the Halloween parade and was chairman for the 24th Celebration.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Catherine (Drain) Patterson; and his six children, Ryan Nicholas (Monica) Patterson, Jill Patterson, Cara Jane Patterson all of Mesa, Ralph Adam Patterson serving a mission in Tonga; Kyle Jonathan and Lora Colleen Patterson both of St. Johns; a grandchild, Nicholas Ryan Patterson; siblings Patricia Lynn (Jay) Douglas, John Rigby Patterson both of Mesa, Richard Craig (Diane) Patterson of Gilbert, Marcellus (Natalie) Patterson of St. Johns.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 17 at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, St. Johns Downtown Chapel. Public viewing will begin at 9 a.m. in the Relief Society Room at the church. Interment will be at St. John's Cemetery.
