The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona 02/04/2005 Rob Roy M. Patterson, 75, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2005 at his home in St. Johns He was born in St. Johns to Joy B. and Josephine Patterson, July 31, 1929. The youngest of 11 children, his family was always extremely important to him. He was a hard worker all his life. A very successful and respected rancher and the only area veterinarian for many years, he also found time to serve as a bishop of the LDS Church, lifetime service on the Lyman Water Board, eight years on the school board, Kiwanis Club and county health inspector for over 20 years. Rob learned to work hard from a very young age. He loved his family and remained very close to them throughout his life. He was very kind and always willing to help someone out in times of need. He was an outstanding athlete in football and basketball and was recently honored as one of Arizonaís all-time best basketball players. After high school, he attended the University of Arizona and there met his future bride, Diane Bryce, whom he married March 20, 1952 in the Mesa, Arizona Temple. He graduated from Colorado State with a doctor of veterinary medicine degree and returned to St. Johns where he spent the rest of his life raising his seven children and serving his family and community. He always loved and enjoyed good horses and dogs and was an exemplary horseman. He had a great sense of humor and was quick to smile. He was an avid reader and loved history. His passing leaves a great hole in the hearts of his family and friends and the community that he loved and served so well. His survivors include his wife Diane; sons Dana Bryce (Ann) Patterson and Cristian Rob Roy (Eve) Patterson; daughters Elise (Ken) Lundeen, Kim (Macky) Trickey, Marci (Paul) Ramsey, Velvet (Vanden) Neilsen and April Patterson, as well as 31 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, downtown chapel in St. Johns, Wednesday, Feb. 2. Interment was at the Westside Cemetery, St. Johns. Burnham-Jewkes Mortuary, St. Johns, was in charge of arrangements. See Also: Find A Grave |
