The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona 09/02/2005 Lee Waters, 84, died at home in St. Johns, Aug. 31, 2005. He was born Nov. 20, 1920, in Burley, Idaho, and moved to St. Johns at age 14 where he lived all his life. Lee served in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He met and married Gwen Butler Waters in the Salt Lake Temple, April 26, 1945. After being discharged from the service, Lee and Gwen returned to St. Johns where he managed Whiting Brothers' Cash Store for 20 years and then served as City Manager for 20 years until he retired in 1988. Lee was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions during his life. Lee and Gwen's favorite calling was serving as temple workers in the Mesa Arizona Temple for 12 years and then in the Snowflake Arizona Temple from the time it was dedicated until his passing. Lee is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gwen Waters; five children, Janice Brown of Lake Forest, Calif., David (Kathy) Waters of West Valley City, Utah, Marsha (Richard) Wilson of San Antonio, Texas, Curtis (Margie) Waters of St. Johns, and Scott (Pandora) Waters of Vernon; 19 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 5, at the St. Johns Downtown Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with a visitation one hour prior.
