Gary Lomax Welker, 47, died as a result of a one-vehicle accident near St. Johns, April 24, 2005.


He was born in San Manuel Aug. 7, 1957 to Samuel and Carol Welker, and has been a life long resident of Arizona. He married his sweetheart, Leslie Lewis, on Valentine's Day, 1981. They made their home in St. Johns. Gary spent 24 years employed at the Coronado Generating Station, Salt River Project as a journeyman mechanic. He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his family. He liked most all sporting events and like playing the guitar and listening to music.

His survivors include his wife, Leslie, St. Johns; sons Gary Michael Welker, St. Johns; daughters Ashley (Micah) Robers, St. Johns; Megan (Mark) Wilhelm, St. Johns; Rachel (John) Richardson, St. Johns; and Lacey Welker, St. Johns, his mother Carol Welker, Show Low; brother Glen (Pamela) Welker, Show Low; sister Cathy Johnson, Show Low; and four grandchildren.

His father Samuel Welker preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Downtown Chapel, Saturday, April 30. Interment was at the Westside, St. Johns City Cemetery in St. Johns.

Burnham-Jewkes Mortuary, St. Johns, handled the arrangements.
