The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona February 10, 2003 Thomas Wilbur "Dutch" Godbehere, passed away at his Phoenix home on February 7, 2003 at age 92. He was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas on June 1, 1910. He got the name "Dutch" because his mother said he sounded like a little Dutchman when he talked as a young child. His family came to Arizona by wagon in 1913 by way of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Dallas Fort Worth, Texas. The Godbehere family settled in southwest Phoenix. He was in the paint business all his adult life. He was an avid sportsman; he loved hunting and fishing. He witnessed Phoenix grown from dirt streets lined with trees to what it is today. His wife, Edna Mae (Sanders) preceded him in death. He is survived by four sons and one daughter: Jim (Joe McCurry), Eddie (Beverly Scott), Dick (Vernette Vogler), Mary (Chuck Ciampoli) and Walter (Chris Perry). Two sons preceded him in death: T.W. "Bill" and O. Stanley (Rose Guastella). He has 17 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5-8:00 PM at Whitney and Murphy Arcadia Funeral Home Chapel, 4800 E. Indian School Road. Graveside services will be held at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, February 12th at National Memorial Cemetery of AZ, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road. The family request, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 501 E. Roanoke, Phoenix 85004, or Hospice of the Valley, 9720 W. Peoria Ave., Suite 128, Peoria 85345.
