Murray A. Cabot

Posted 2009-12-23 by Pat Wilson
Murray A. Cabot of Sun City West passed away on June 26, 2002. He was born in Yonkers, N.Y., and raised his family in New Jersey. He became a part time Arizona resident in 1981 and moved to the Valley permanently 10 years later.

Cabot was a self-made business executive in the aeronautics industry. He worked for Curtiss Wright Aircraft Corporation for 37 years, then for two smaller aircraft and helicopter parts companies until his retirement in 1983. His business travels were extensive, taking him throughout Europe and the Far East. An avid golfer who loved Arizona as much for its sunshine as for its plethora of greens and fairways, Cabot had a lifetime dedication to sports and fitness. He was a former New York State handball champion, former minor league baseball player, and enjoyed a brief stint as a professional football player, playing halfback. He passed on his prowess and his love of sport to his children, spending countless hours teaching them to throw, hit, kick and catch, and coaching neighborhood teams.

Cabot was a founding member of Beth Emeth Congregation of the Sun Cities. Kind, generous, eternally optimistic, and as sweet as the ice cream he loved, he was devoted to his wife of 63 years, Estelle, and his family.

He reveled in the accomplishments of his son, Howard (Vicki) of Phoenix; daughter, Lynn Cabot Puro (the late Michael) of Saddle River, N.J.; and his eight grandchildren, Heather, Melissa, Courtney and Tyler Cabot and Dawn, Stacey, Scott and Todd Puro. He is also survived by a brother, Lawrence Brick-Cabot (Helaine) of Chappaqua, N.Y.

Services were held June 28, 2002, at Beth El Cemetery with Rabbi Chaim Silver officiating. Contributions in his memory are suggested to: Beth Emeth Congregation, 13702 W. Meeker Blvd., Sun City West, AZ 85375; Israel Now, Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix, 32 W. Coolidge Ave., #200, Phoenix, AZ, 85013; ASU Foundation/Jewish Studies Program, Arizona State University, P.O. Box 870302, Tempe, AZ 85287-0302.
