Posted 2007-01-05 by Arizona Newspapers
George A. Armer, 88, died March 21 [2003] in Redlands, Calif. He was born in Globe and moved with his family to Whittier, Calif., in 1922. His father, Tom, was Gila County Sheriff in 1917-1918.

He was production manager at U.S. Rubber Company, retiring after 30 years. From 1967 to 1983, he embarked on a second career with A. Finkl and Sons, a manufacturer of tool and die steel. In his final retirement, he volunteered at the Golden Oaks Seniors, the Hilltoppers Garden Club, and the local arboretum at Runnings Springs, Calif., in the San Bernardino Mountains.

Survivors include his wife, Claire; four stepchildren Heather, David and John Hall and Linda Garrett; one brother, Paul Armer; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He often returned to Globe, especially during roundup time at the Armer ranch. Family and friends will gather in September at the Armer homestead where his ashes will find their final resting place.
