He dies at Grass Valley, California -

The Gas in His Room at the Holbrook Hotel Was Turned on and he Was Asphyxiated.

Grass Valley, Cal. Jan. 20. This morning at seven o'clock C. W. Leach was found dead in his room at the Holbrooke House. A strong smell of gas attracted the attention of people about the house and Leach's room was entered when he was found as above. Deceased was in his usual excellent health last night and was playing whist in the hotel with a party of friends. He retired shortly after 10 o'clock and it is supposed that when he turned out the gas he turned the screw to far for death was the result by asphyxiation.

The Evening Telegraph learns that C. W. Leach is a wealthy mining man and has been here about week looking at gold mines. For the past twenty-five years he has been operating mines in Arizona, Colorado and Mexico and is well known in all mining circles in California. He leaves a wife at Tempe, Arizona.

He was a native of Ohio, aged 64 years. His death was purely accidental.
