Jeannette Florence Bengtson, born into this world Sept. 2, 1944, ascended to heaven Feb. 21, 2008.

Jeannette was born in Washington, N.C., and moved to Southern California at just 6 months old. She graduated from Anza Elementary School and South High School in Torrance.

She married and gave birth to a daughter, Melissa Anne, in 1963. Her search for wholeness brought her to India, England and Alaska, where she met her Lord Jesus Christ in Kodiak, Alaska.

In Kodiak, outhouses were commonplace, whereas her life in California yielded a much more comfortable lifestyle. While she worked as an executive secretary for American Honda, she met Vice President of Marketing & Distribution Jerry Bengtson, and became his wife. She and Jerry traveled many places to do business. Jerry taught her to play golf and, during her second game, she scored a hole in one. She hobnobbed with golf pros and mingled with executives. She was always the life of the party and she lived a full and exciting life.

She was talented in many things – throwing clay pots, making greeting cards, flower arranging and knitting. She was never shy about taking classes and learning a new skill.

She loved her grandchildren, Sarah, Josh, Elizabeth and Lauren, and her great-grandchildren, Lily, Mary, Lydia, Evangeline and Madison, with a passion. Her desire to bless her family led her on many a shopping spree.

In 1997, she learned that she had end-stage liver disease and was in need of a liver transplant. She underwent surgery in 1998 and was in for the battle of her life. She was put on an extensive medication regiment, continuous blood tests and regular liver biopsies.
In 2003, she and Jerry retired to Prescott, Ariz., and in 2007, she received news that her donor liver was failing.

The family wishes to extend their gratefulness to the wonderful, caring and professional staff at Granite Mountain Home Care and Hospice for all of their help and support, and to the staff of Heritage Memory Mortuary for handling all of the final arrangements.

A Celebration of Life service will be 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, at Prescott Christian Church, 501 S. Senator Highway, Prescott, Ariz.
