Harold B. Strand

Harold B. Strand, age 75, of Mayer, AZ, passed away May 27, 2005 along with his wife in a house fire.

Harold spent his childhood in Missoula, Montana before his family moved to Phoenix when he was still in elementary school. He graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1947. Harold earned his degree in Music Education from Arizona State University followed by a Masters degree.

He was a music educator for 30 years and a veteran of the Korean War.

Harold and Perralee married in 1950 and shared 54 years of marriage.

Harold was Principal tuba in the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra for 23 years before retiring in 1973. Harold and Perralee loved to travel and through the years visited many countries.

After moving to Mayer he continued to play tuba for numerous orchestras and bands in the Prescott area, including the Central Arizona Concert Band, Yavapai College Orchestra, Prescott Summer Pops, ensembles and German bands. Harold also taught private tuba lessons with his last student being his Grandson Hal.

Harold was very well liked and has a terrific sense of humor. He loved to tell stories and describe recipes in detail, whether you wanted to hear them or not. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.

Survivors include his daughter Trudy GRUVER, son-in-law Glenn GRUVER, grandsons Harold and Curtis GRUVER, all of Mayer, and a half sister, Nancy BARNES of Great Falls, Montana.

A graveside service in honor of Harold and Perralee was held at the Mayer Cemetery.
