Alice Helen (Wheeler) Blish

Alice Helen Wheeler Blish passed away on April 27, 2002, in Springfield, Vt. She was 82.

She was born on Feb. 18, 1921 in Waitsfield, Mass., the daughter of Delmont and Imogene (Mosher) Wheeler. A sister, Muriel W. Hurd of Turners Falls, Mass., and a brother, Rowland D. Wheeler of Wickenburg, proceeded her in death.

She was married to Freddie E. Blish on Feb. 18, 1939 and they lived in Springfield until 1972 when they moved to Wickenburg. Freddie passed away in April 1977.

Alice moved to Congress in 1982 where she resided until October 2001, when, for health reasons, she moved back to Springfield to live with her son Roger and his family.
Alice worked at the Wickenburg Regional Hospital from 1977 until 1987. She was Dietary Manager there from 1982 to 1987, when she retired. She was active in the Arizona Dietary Managers Association and held the office of President in 1982.

Alice was a board member of the Congress Library for many years and held the offices of president and secretary/treasurer several times during those years. She was also a member of the Congress Belles and attended the Desert Hills Baptist Church in Congress.

When she lived in Vermont she was a member of the Pomona Grange in North Springfield and a member of the Methodist Church in Springfield. Of late she worshipped at the Assembly of God Church in Springfield with her son Charles and his family.

Freddie and Alice had seven children. One little girl, Laurlye Helen, died in April 1949 at the age of 3 weeks. The couple's surviving children are: Patricia B. Gould and husband Robert L. Gould of Congress; Roger A. Blish and wife Donna Harvey Blish of Springfield, Vt.; Charles E. Blish and wife Judith Patton Blish of Springfield; Theodore E. Blish and wife Anne Donnelly Blish of Glendale; Gary W. Blish of Glendale; and Michael G. Blish and wife Wendy Streeter Blish of Phoenix.

Surviving grandchildren include Richard Gould of Congress, Robert E. Gould and Michelle Gould of Windham, Maine, Janalene and Robert Hale of North Springfield, Vt., Freddie J. Blish and Heather Blish of Accokeek, Md., Robbie A. Blish and Brooke Blish of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Matthew R. Blish and Jennifer Blish of Greenville, N.C., Charles E. Blish II of Springfield, Jeffrey P. Blish and Michelle Blish of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Derek Blish of Yucca Valley, Calif., Christopher Blish of Yucca Valley, Crystal Blish Patton of Yucca Valley, Daniel Blish of Yucca Valley, and Martha Kay Cooper-Blish of Phoenix.

Also surviving are 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; and 45 nieces and nephews.

Alice's funeral service will be held at Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield, Vt. on Friday, May 3.

Memorial services were held at the Desert Hills Baptist Church (Congress Senior Center) in Congress on Tuesday, April 30.
