Richard L. Gowdy

Richard Gowdy, 44, was born to Fred Gowdy Sr. and Vylee Gowdy-Stewart at Williams Air Force Base in Chandler, Arizona on April 2, 1958. He was the seventh of ten children and twin to Robert.

Richard attended Kino Jr. High and Westwood High School where he graduated in 1976. Richard graduated from the Maricopa County Skill Center and was certified as a meat cutter in 1980. He also attended Mesa Community College.

Richard was married to Vicky Felix of Mesa, Arizona from 1986 -2002. To this union three girls were born; Yolanda, Tamara Nicole and Princella. They raised their children in Mesa, and Gilbert, Arizona.

Richard was a wonderful father, and grandfather and loved his children dearly. He loved restoring cars, fishing and cooking - he was known as the "Spaghetti King" for his delicious spaghetti.

Richard was an extremely caring man who had an "open door policy" at his home, over the years taking in many family members and friends. He was a talker - he would start and end a conversation with everyone he met.

Richards's greatest loves in his life were his daughters and little Tajahne. A spiritual man, Richard was brought up in a religious home. He took hold of life and saw God's creations as a gift to us all. He continued his spiritual growth throughout his entire life in his own way.

Richard worked for Master Craft, Rosarita Mexican Foods, and the Phoenix Urban League before he began a 22 year career at Intel Corporation in 1981. Richard, an Equipment Technician, for Intel was an dedicated, hard working and ethical employee.

Richard leaves to celebrate his life: his mother: Vylee Stewart, daughters: Yolanda, Tamara Nicole and Princella of Mesa, Leah of Phoenix; Granddaughter, Tajahne Gowdy of Mesa, sisters: Patricia Coby of Mesa, Brenda Robbins (Ken) of Casa Grande, Sandra Nelson of Kansas City, KS, Cynthia and Denise Gowdy of Atlanta, GA; brothers: Fred Jr. (Karen) of Denver, CO, Bernard of Flagstaff, Robert, twin brother (Roxanne) of Mesa, James of San Diego, CA; and a very special friend, Terry Grim, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and many loving friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Fred Gowdy, Sr. and stepfather Jesse Stewart.

Visitation: Tuesday, March 11, 2003, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Trinity Baptist Church 2130 E. University Dr. Mesa, Arizona.

Viewing: Wednesday, March 12, 2003, 12:00 noon at the church.

Funeral service on Wednesday, March 12, 2003, 1:00 p.m. at the church. Dinner held at the Washington Activity Center, 44 E. 5th Street, Mesa, immediately after interment.

Arrangements are being handled by Preston Funeral Home 3800 S Central Ave, Phoenix, Arizona.
