Delores “Dee” Bailey, a longtime resident of Wallstreet, Colo., was born into eternity on April 8, 2008, in Prescott Valley, Ariz. She was 86.

Born July 15, 1921, in Denver, Colo., she was the oldest daughter of Fredrick and Nora Schulze. She married James F Bailey Oct. 7, 1939, in Wallstreet, Colo.

Dee was a strong advocate of history and in 1982 authored “God’s Country USA”, a written history of the Boulder County mining and its families. A second historic book was penned by Dee in 1995, “Boulder County Miners” served as a tribute to the local miners and all the proceeds of the book were used to erect a bronze statue of a gold miner. This statue sits on the lawn of Boulder County courthouse and is also a tribute to Dee’s dedicated efforts. Both Dee and Jim were honored members of both the local and the mining communities. Due to Dee’s love and dedication to preserving history, she was inducted to the Mining Hall of Fame in 1997. The Bailey home, which Dee and Jimmy shared for 57 years was commissioned in 2007 and now serves the community as a mining museum.

Dee will always be remembered for her lively blue eyes, easy smile and for always offering a cup of coffee and plenty of conversation to anyone who visited her home.

Dee is survived by her daughter and her son-in-law, Theda and Jack Peterson; grandchildren, Jami and Kim Tadda, Jeff and Judi Peterson, Troy and Teresa Peterson; sisters, Earle Smith, Myrna Gould and Betty Ray.

She will be missed by all who were lucky enough to call her their friend.

Services will be 10 a.m. April 15, 2008, at Christ Mortuary in Boulder, Colo., with Dr. Vernon Rodgers of Prescott Christian Church officiating.
