Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Wednesday, April 02, 2008 Ronald Arlen Kinsman, 71, of Medford, Ore., went to be with his Lord on Thursday, March 20, 2008, at 1:25 p.m. in his home. His wife, Barbara, and younger daughter Paula were at his side, holding his hands as he smiled and looked upward. They were residents of Prescott, Ariz., from 2000 through 2005 and were members of AELC. Ron was born in 1936 in San Luis Obispo, Calif., to Archie Daniel and Adeline Zylicz Kinsman. He attended Fremont Elementary, San Luis Obispo Junior High and SLO High School, graduating with the Class of ’54. During his high school years, Ron helped form the “Dreamers,” a dance band that regularly played for students’ and others’ dancing pleasure. He also led the school’s marching band, was student body president and represented the school at Boys’ State in Sacramento. Ron attended UCLA as a music major where he met the love of his life, Barbara, in choral groups. They were wed in May 1958 and shared a love of band and choral music and its performance throughout their nearly 50 years of marriage. Ron was a banker with many leading banking institutions during the greater part of his adult life. During his career, he attended the Pacific Banking School in Seattle and served in the national and international divisions of United California Bank, traveling to Denmark, Romania, Germany and other nations during the ’60s and ’70s. He was appointed manager of the UCB branch in Redwood City, ending his banking career as president of Bay Area Bank in Redwood City. Banking was followed by a second successful career in insurance, from which he retired. The couple sang with numerous choral groups and was able to give concerts throughout Europe and China, in Carnegie Hall, and other locations. He was also a valued member of the Northern Arizona Concert Band in Prescott, Ariz., and both the Rogue Valley Symphonic Band and The Southern Oregon Concert Band in Medford. They also enjoyed family vacations to the Scandinavian countries, Great Britain, Europe and the United States. In addition to his wife, Ron leaves daughters Susan Kinsman and Paula VanderZwan (Ronald); daughter-in-law Samela Kinsman; and five grandchildren. A daughter, Stephanie, and a son, Jeffrey, preceded him in death. Ron is also survived by a brother, Richard Kinsman (Dody); a sister, Karen Johnson (Robert); four nephews, a niece, and numerous cousins. The family appreciates the wonderful, loving care of Ron’s primary care physician, Dr. Jon Van Valkenburg; the Rogue Valley Home Health Care team; and the Lavender Team from Rogue Valley Home Hospice whose loving care eased his final days. Ron had a warm and gracious spirit, a twinkle in his eyes, and was a gentleman in the best sense of that word. He was an honest man who was devoted to his family. He will be warmly and lovingly remembered and greatly missed. A celebration of his life will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2000 Oakwood Drive in Medford. All who knew and loved Ron are invited to participate. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a donation in Ron’s name to Rogue Valley Home Health/Hospice, 2960 Doctors Park Drive, Medford; Westminster Presbyterian Church Music Fund; or the Medford Alzheimer’s Association.
