Lawrence E. Cobb (Larry to his friends, Skipper to his family), age 72, passed away suddenly on March 27, 2008. He was brought up in Phoenix where he lived until moving to Prescott in 1998.

With a zest for life that was truly inspirational, Larry was an example of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. In 1979, he gave up a sedentary lifestyle and a 30-year smoking habit and since then completed over 90 marathons (including Boston twice), ultra runs, Grand Canyon Crossings and triathlons. He also enjoyed tennis, bowling, strength training, camping, backpacking, mountain biking, swimming, reading, duplicate bridge and Texas Hold’em.

After 27 years as a reliability and quality engineering manager for Motorola, Larry retired in 1987 and returned to ASU for a master’s degree in Exercise Science and Wellness. He then spent 20 years teaching his avocation – fitness for life! He truly believed that “exercise is medicine” and enjoyed helping people get started – especially with running.

He was a veteran, having served proudly with the U.S. Army from 1955-1957 in Bamberg, Germany.

From 1986-1994, he served part-time as a pro-tem judge, civil traffic hearing officer and juvenile referee at the Tempe City Court.

He is predeceased by his father, William Cobb; mother Louise McPherson; sister Lucille Yahraus and his son Steven. He is survived by his wife and partner in all events, Jenny; their golden retriever Rusty; sister Irene Taylor (Dick) of Mesa; an aunt, uncle, very special nieces, nephews and cousins and numerous dear and close friends.

Larry was a wonderful, sharing individual and will be greatly missed. Happy Trails Larry – you touched hundreds of lives and will always be loved and appreciated.

A celebration of Larry’s life will be noon Friday, April 4, 2008, at the Adult Center of Prescott on Rosser Road.
