Mrs. Daren Estelle Mekara, age 65, of Fernandina Beach, Fla., passed on to be with the Lord on Saturday evening, April 12, 2008, at Shands Medical Center Jacksonville.

A native and lifelong resident of Cleveland, Ohio, she had resided in Fernandina Beach since moving from Chardon, Ohio, in 2002. Mrs. Mekara was a woman of great beauty, integrity and moral strength. She deeply loved her family, had a great love for the arts, theater, antiques, all animals and was an accomplished sketch artist. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church.

She leaves behind, her husband of 47 years, Thomas Michael Mekara, Sr.; their four children, Thomas Michael Mekara, Jr. and his wife, Tina of Jacksonville, Fla., Michael Thomas Mekara and his wife Jessica of Hilliard, Fla., Coleen Sandra Mekara Herring and her husband Lance of Martinez, Ga., and Richard Thomas Mekara of Yulee, Fla.; two sisters, Betty Phillips of Prescott, Ariz., and Diane Tomlinson of Brunswick, Ohio; eleven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2008, from St. Michael Catholic Church, 505 Broome St., Fernandina Beach with Reverend Father Gerard O’Shea, officiating.

Mrs. Mekara will be laid to rest at a later date.

Guests and friends are invited to visit from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. The Vigil for the deceased will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the Burgess Chapel.
