Ray W. Justus

Ray W. JUSTUS died Saturday afternoon at the Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona following a lengthy illness. He was born in Egan, South Dakota where he spent his childhood. Ray graduated from Egan High School in 1933. Following high school, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in western South Dakota. On September 17, 1938 in Flandreau, South Dakota, Ray married the former Mary O. CARMAN, also of Egan. He is a veteran of World War II.

After the birth of the first of their five children, they moved to Watertown, South Dakota. For over twenty-one years, Ray was employed by the Watertown Cement Products Company serving in his final capacity as Plant Superintendent until 1962.

Then, because of health problems and the need to get away from the harsh South Dakota winters, he moved with his family to Phoenix, Arizona. He has lived in the Phoenix area since. In recent years, Ray and his wife, Mary, have been patrons at the Westside and Desert West Senior Centers.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; five children: Sandra J. ACKMAN of Phoenix, Arizona; Dennis J. JUSTUS of Bullhead City, Arizona; Dianna F. Quick of Renton, Washington; Ray W. JUSTUS, III of Chandler, Arizona; and Gary L. JUSTUS of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Ray suffered from emphysema and related heart disease.
