Blumenfeld, Dr. Frances Webster

Dr. Frances Webster Blumenfeld, age 75, was born on April 11, 1927 in Los Angeles, California and grew up in the LA area. She was most recently living at The Gardens of Arkanshire in Springdale, Arkansas. She died on January 26, 2003 in the hospital at Springdale after a short illness.

The Reverend Dr. Blumenfeld attended Pomona College (CA) and Hartford Theological Seminary in Connecticut. Dr. Blumenfeld was ordained as a minister in the United Church of Christ on February 5, 1956. In 1990, she received her Doctor of Divinity degree from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago. She served a variety of churches during her career as a pastor, including congregations in Park Forest (IL), Battle Creek, Michigan, Le Sueur, Minnesota, and Huron, South Dakota. In addition, she did volunteer and short-term ministry assignments everywhere else she lived: Connecticut, Oklahoma, Itasca, Illinois, Arlington Heights, Illinois, and Scottsdale, Arizona.

Dr. Blumenfeld was preceded in death by her parents (Lucille and Birdsall WEBSTER) and her sister (Dorothy PETRICK). She is survived by her children: Stephen BLUMENFELD of Wellington, New Zealand, Mark and Marylou JEFFS of Highland Village (TX), Andrew BLUMENFELD of Darien (IL) and Susan BLUMENFELD of Fayetteville (AR). She is also survived by her nieces and nephews and their children.

Dr. BLUMENFELD retired from her work as pastor of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Huron, South Dakota in 1992. She moved to Scottsdale, AZ to be in a warmer climate and to live near her sister, Dotty. During her retirement years, Dr. BLUMENFELD loved to read, sing, travel and participate in various church and volunteer programs. She sang in her church choir, as well as in the Choral Union - part of the Arizona State University Choir.

Dr. Blumenfeld traveled several times to Europe and took a Pacific island cruise with her sister in 2000. She did volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, and various children's programs. After her 75th birthday in April 2002, Dr. Blumenfeld moved to the Gardens of Arkanshire retirement home in Springdale (AR) to be near her youngest daughter, Susan. She thoroughly enjoyed the last months of her life in Arkansas. She spent a very happy Christmas 2002 with her children in Dallas, TX.

Upon her return to Arkansas, she fell ill with a lung infection from which she did not recover.

A memorial service was held at St. Paul's. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in the name of Frances Blumenfeld to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, Ohio 44720 or Shepherd of the Hills Congregational United Church of Christ in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Arrangements were by Moore's Chapel, Fayetteville, Arkansas.
