Jennie Marcellene (Southford) Shryock

Jennie Marcellene Southford Shryock passed away July 13, 2007. She was born March 28, 1920, in Charleston, S.C., to Elizabeth (Dolan and John Albert Southford.

After graduating from Eastern High School in Baltimore in 1938, Jennie worked for the Navy department in Washington, D.C., where she was a member of the secretarial pool responsible for notifying the families of Pearl Harbor casualties. She then joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed at Cherry Point, N.C., where she met Edward Charles Shryock.

They were married on Oct. 14, 1944, in New Bern, N.C., and moved to Prescott, Ariz., in 1961.

Jennie was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish in Prescott.

She is survived by Edward, her husband of 62 years; sons, Gregory Shryock of Eugene, Ore., and Steven Shryock of New York, N.Y.; daughters, Barbara Clark, of Tempe, Ariz., Katherine (Michael) Hood, of Indiana, Penn., Rita Stricker, of Chino Valley, Ariz., Jane (Dennis) Halverso of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

A funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, at Sacred Heart Church in Prescott.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Catholic Social Services of Yavapai County.

Heritage Memory Mortuary assisted the family.
