Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Saturday, December 3, 2005 Cassandra "Sandy" Ann (Harmon) Addy was born July 21, 1949, and went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 23, 2005. Sandy was born in East Liverpool, Ohio and lived there until she was five years old when the family moved to Phoenix. She attended John F. Long Elementary School. She graduated from Maryvale High School in 1967. She attended NAU where she received her B.S. in English History in 1975. Sandy met her future husband in college and the two were married July 9, 1973. They settled in Flagstaff, where Sandy worked for the city as a receptionist. The couple later moved to Prescott Valley where Sandy attended the Mingus Valley Presbyterian Church. Sandy was diagnosed with Childhood diabetes when she was six. Sandy lost sight in 1981. In 1988, she needed dialysis and required a kidney transplant. She adopted "Sidney," her new kidney, donated by her brother Scott in 1989. The two celebrated "Sidney" every year. Sandy volunteered in every Democratic campaign, starting with Eugene McCarthy in 1968. She also worked in most local elections. Sandy was very active in the "National Federation of the Blind. She served as an officer in her local chapter and attended many national conventions. She also went to Washington, DC to lobby for the NFB. She was preceded in death by her father, Wayne Harmon; aunt and uncle, Grant and Gertrude Pinney; cousin, John Pinney; and aunt, Dorothy Harmon. She is survived by her husband, Jay Addy; her mother, Margaret Ann Harmon; brother, Scott Paul Harmon; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and many cousins. She was a courageous wife, daughter, sister and aunt. She fought the disease of diabetes and was always cheerful, optimistic and always inter ested in what they were doing. She was a keeper of the family stories. She made it a point to send birthday cards to all of her extended family. She loved going to Carpenteria, Calif, for the annual family reunion and loved the potluck. She always had a smile on her face. She will be greatly missed by her husband, mother, brother, relatives, and everyone who was lucky enough to know her. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 3rd, at the Mingus Valley Presbyterian Church, 8340 E. Leigh Dr., Prescott Valley. Burial will be at 3 p.m., at Greenwood Cemetery, 2200 block, West Van Buren, Phoenix. Information provided by survivors |
