Funeral services for Mr. Marvin Robert Elam, age 88, who passed away Dec. 23, will be held this Friday (Dec. 30) at 10:30 a.m. in the First Southern Baptist Church with Pastor Dean Stanley officiating.

Visitation will be held Thursday (Dec. 29) from 6-8 p.m. at Wickenburg Funeral Home.

Marvin was born June 27, 1917 in Bond County, Ill. to Fred M. Elam and Bertha R. Becham Elam. Marvin devoted the majority of his life to serving the Lord. He was ordained to the ministry in 1942. He had pastored 20 churches in six states before he retired in 1990.

He was pastor of the First Baptist Church in Wickenburg from July 1964 to July 1967 and had served as Assistant Chaplain at Phoenix Memorial Hospital for years.

Marvin enjoyed golfing, but most important in his life was his family and his love for his grand-children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a son-in-law, and a grandson. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Christine Elam of Wickenburg; son and, daughter-in-law Robert and Ruby Elam of Mesa, Ariz.; daughter Doris Hull of Wickenburg; daughter and son-in-law Alma and Gary Melton of surprise, Ariz.; daughter and son-in-law Sheryl and Steve McKelvy of North Carolina; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wickenburg funeral Home.

Mr. Elam was born June 27, 1917 in Bond County, Ill., to Fred M. Elam and Bertha R. Becham Elam. He devoted the majority of his life to serving the Lord, being ordained to the ministry in 1942.

He had pastored twenty churches in six states before he retired in 1990.

He was pastor of the First Baptist Church in Wickenburg from July 1964 to July 1967 and had served as Assistant Chaplain at Phoenix Memorial Hospital for years.

From 1977 through 1990 he served at Westview Baptist Church and Colifax Baptist Church in the Chanute, Kan., area.

Mr. Elam enjoyed gardening and golfing, but most important in his life was his family and his love for his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a son-in-law, and a grandson.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years Christine Elam of Wickenburg; son and daughter-in-law Robert and Ruby Elam of Mesa, Ariz.; daughter Doris Hull of Wickenburg; daughter and son-in-law Dell and Paul Peterson of Wickenburg; daughter and son-in-law Alma and Gary Melton of Surprise, Ariz.; daughter and son-in-law Sheryl and Steve McKelvy of North Carolina; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home.
