Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, Arizona - December 7, 2005 RANCH CO-FOUNDER EDITH HAYMAN PASSES AWAY Edith Courteen Gant Hayman, helped establish Rancho de Caballeros in Wickenburg, 58 years ago, passed away Monday (Dec. 5) at Wickenburg Community Hospital. She was 84. Mrs. Hayman was born on July 9, 1921 in Milwaukee, Wisc., to Herbert and Josephine Courteen. She graduated from Brownmoore School in Santa Fe, N.M. In October of 1941, she married Dallas C. Gant of Altus, Okla., in Santa Fe, N.M. In the winter months, the couple managed Remuda Ranch in Wickenburg for Jack and Sophie Burden and managed the Bishop's Lodge in Santa Fe, N.M., during the summer months until establishing Rancho de los Caballeros with C.L. Maguire and Belford Howard in 1947. After the passing of Dallas Gant in 1967, she managed Los Caballeros until 1969, when Dallas, Jr., "Rusty" Gant graduated from Arizona State University and returned to the Ranch. In 1972, she married Francis L. Hayman of Princess Anne, Md., and was able to enjoy summers in Maryland and winters in Wickenburg until Mr. Hayman passed away in 1984. "Edie" was a Pink Lady at Wickenburg Hospital and was a founding member of the Las Damas riding group. She enjoyed golf and was an active member at both Wickenburg Country Club and Los Caballeros Golf Club. Mrs. Hayman is survived by son Dallas C. Gant, Jr. "Rusty" of Wickenburg; daughter Susan Gant Bjerke (Eric) of Tucson; grandchildren Nathan and Andrew Bjerke; sister Aileen Courteen Contin of Wickenburg; nephew Bart D. Fowler of New Jersey and nieces Barbara Fowler Raber of California and Deanne Contin Delaney of Georgia; children by marriage Michael Hayman (Marsha) of Washington, D.C.; Pat Hayman (Carol) and Louise Hayman of Maryland; and granddaughter Kessler Burnett In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Wickenburg community Hospital building fund or St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Wickenburg. Services will be held Friday (Dec. 9) at 2 p.m. at. St Alban's Episcopal Church in Wickenburg,• with graveside services following. Arrangements are being made by Wickenburg Funeral Home.
