Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, Arizona August 29, 1947 JOHN MOORE, AGUILA RESIDENT, SUMMONED John Moore, familiarly known to all residents of Aguila a “Pop,” passed away at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday at Community Hospital in Wickenburg where he had been a patient for several days. His death was due to a heart ailment. He was close to 72 years of age. Mr. Moore had been stricken with a heart attack in Aguila and brought to the hospital in Wickenburg where he was showing considerable improvement. He fought off an attack of pneumonia and early Wednesday seemed so much better that the attending physician was considering allowing him to go home. Suddenly he had another heart attack and passed away before the doctor, who was at his home at that time, could reach the hospital. A native of Idaho, Mr. Moore had been in the cattle business all his life. He came to Arizona and in 1912 located near Aguila as foreman of the Lapham Cow company where he introduced the short horn Durham breed to Arizona. He was with that company a long while, and after went into the cattle business for himself. He was widely known among Arizona cattle raisers. Mr. Moore was the father of nine children; all of whom survive. They are John T. and Harvey Moore of Aguila; Kearney of near Congress; Fred of Tempe and Jesse of Yermo, Calif. The surviving daughters are Mrs. Amanda Henderson of Glendale, Ariz., Mrs. Ruth Brown of Williams; Mrs. Lydia Green of Yermo and Leola Moore of Rosemead, Calif. Two step-children also survive; Ora Galvin of Aguila and Iva Benedict of Winslow. Mr. Moore’s mother, Mrs. C. L. Moore survives her son as do three brothers and two sisters: Fred and George Moore of Cottonwood; Joe Moore of Flagstaff; Minnie McCarty of Cottonwood and Catherine Farrall of Flagstaff. Funeral services are to be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Aguila with the burial in the cemetery there. See Also: Find a Grave |
