Melvin J. Branson of Collbran died Thursday in Rimrock, Ariz., of
natural causes. He was 87.

A daughter, Alma Franklin, and a son, Robert O. Branson, both of
Grand Junction are among survivors.

McLean Funeral Home of Palisade is in charge of arrangements.

Melvin J. Branson

Melvin J. Branson of Collbran died Thursday in Rimrock, Ariz. He
was 87.

Mr. Branson was retired from the U.S. Forest Service after 32 years
in road maintenance and service.

He was born on Aug. 4, 1902, in Eagle to William C. and Jane Peacock
Branson. He spent his childhood in De Beque and graduated from high
school in Parachute.

Mr. Branson married Mamie Leota Franklin in Grand Junction on Aug.
1, 1925. She is deceased.

He was a member of the Bookcliff Church of Christ and enjoyed hunting, fishing and the mountains. He worked on the Farmer's Union Reservoir in Creede in 1935. From 1947 to 1951, he maintained the U.S. Forest Service roads on Grand Mesa. From 1952 to 1962, he helped build and maintain U.S. Forest Service roads in the Black Hills near Deadwood, S.D.

Survivors include two sons, Robert of Grand Junction and Melvin
"Ray" of Scappoose, Ore.; one daughter, Alma Franklin of Grand Junction; six grandchildren; and three great grand children. Two brothers and three sisters are deceased.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Collbran
Congregational Church with the Rev. Eldon Nicholson officiating. Burial will be at Cedarcrest Cemetery in Collbran.
