Judge George A. (Al) Boyd, 81 of Tempe, AZ, passed away on Oct. 15, 2004 at Hospice of the Valley in Chandler, AZ. He was born in Springville, IL on January 21, 1923.

He came to Arizona at the age of 3. His life was spent in the Phoenix and Tempe area in service to his family, county, and community.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Hazel, of Tempe, son John of Chandler, daughter Janet Boyd-McSpadden of Gilbert, grandchildren, Cindy Boyd-Lincicum of Tulare, CA, Jeff McSpadden, of Chandler, Michelle McSpadden-Teason of Queen Creek. sister Louise Daniel of College Place, WA, and 4 great grandchildren.

During World War II he served in the Pacific with the 11th Airborne. He was decorated with the Bronze Star in New Guinea; Silver Star in The Philippines.

His career was in law enforcement where he started with the Tempe Police Department, and was a captain with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Department. In November 1968 he was appointed to fill the unexpired term of the late Judge Fowler as Tempe Justice of the Peace, where he served until retirement in 1977.

He was a past president of Tempe Lodge No. 11, Fraternal Order of Police, as well as Lodge No. 5, serving the Sheriff's Office. He also held office in the State FOP organization. Hec served as vice president of the Maricopa County Justices of the Peace association, was a member of The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, the American Legion, and a Charter member of Tempe Elks Lodge No. 2251.

Service will be Tuesday October 19th at 10 AM at Resthaven Park Mortuary and Cemetery 4310 E Southern Ave, Phoenix. Visitation to be held Monday October 18th from 5 to 8 PM.
