Pearl (Abril) Chavez

Pearl Abril Ochoa Chavez passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at Banner Desert Hospital in Mesa, Arizona of natural causes.

She was born May 31, 1921 in Phoenix, Arizona, the daughter of Frank and Juanita Abril.

Pearl grew up in Sonora, Arizona where her father owned a variety store. She graduated from Ray High School in 1938.

She married Joe Ochoa in 1941 and they moved to California in 1951 where she was a homemaker. She later worked for the County of Los Angeles.

Due to health reasons, she moved to Kearny, Arizona in 1969. She was active in many local organizations where she received awards for her contributions to the community.

After the death of her husband, Joe Ochoa in 1975, she went to work for Pinal County in Florence, Arizona. She later transferred to Maricopa County where she worked in several of the county offices as well as a translator.

She married David Chavez in 1979, retired in 1987 and returned to Kearny, Arizona.

Pearl is survived by 3 daughters: Virginia Ochoa of Kearny, AZ, Lorinda (Arrey) Delong of Yuma, AZ, and Dolores Ochoa of El Mirage, AZ; grandchildren: Tina Corral, Joseph (Dina) Ochoa, Daniel Ochoa, Monica (Pablo) Garcia, Angela Pearl Delong and Lexie Delong; great grandchildren: Anthony, Michael and Eric Corral, Abrianna and Frank Joseph Ochoa III, Daniel Ochoa, Clarissa, Alexis and Adriel Garcia; a brother, Frank Abril Jr. of Gold Canyon; as well as several nieces, nephews and good friends around the world.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Joe Ochoa and David Chavez; her sons: Johnny, Bobby Roy and Frank Ochoa; a daughter, Pearl; her sister, Daisy Lopez; and brothers, Enrique Abril and Roy Abril.

Memorial services will be held Friday, May 16, 2008 at Infant Jesus of Prague Catholic Church in Kearny, AZ at 10:00am with Father James officiating.
