| Flora Bell Beauchamp Davies (1920-2008) Surrounded by her loving family, Flora Bell Davies passed to her rest and into God's care, Friday, May 23, 2008. Her children Larry (Rosalyn) Walker, Jim (Claudia) Walker, and Linda (Mark) Green were by her side. Preceding her in death, were her husband of 27 years, William Walter "Buzz" Davies, her parents, Ed and Callie Beauchamp and her brother James "Eddie" Beauchamp. She is survived by her sister, Alita Mecey. "Florie", as she was known to friends and family, was born August 30, 1920 in Phoenix, Arizona. She was the oldest daughter of James "Ed" and Callie Smith Beauchamp. She was a member of First Families of Arizona, an organization of descendants of those pioneers who arrived in Arizona prior to statehood. She is featured in the recently published, Amazing Girls of Arizona, True Stories of Young Pioneers by Jan Cleere, as a member of a traveling women's professional softball team. As such, she was proud to be one of the pioneers contributing to the advent of softball as a major sport for women. She played for leading teams in the 30's and 40's and became a standout member of the A-1 Queens. She was inducted into the Arizona Softball Foundation Hall of Fame in 2006 and enjoyed hosting luncheons for former teammates. She worked many years at the Arizona State Tax Commission and for Superior Court Judge Fred Hyder as a bailiff and personal secretary, until retirement in 1981. Florie enjoyed the extended family which grew to include nine grandchildren: Dana (Robert) Johnston, Joe (Maggie) Walker, Ed (Dianna) Walker, Tommy Walker, Jimmy Walker, Larry (Ivone) Walker, Jane McDonald, Joe Rodrigues and Robert (Stacy) Walker. Through her remaining years, Florie gave loving leadership to her family which now has extended to five generations. Her great grandchildren provided her with reasons to travel to ball games, gymnastics meets and countless school activities. She was their greatest supporter. Left behind are Jayme (David) Hughes, Amanda Johnston, Danielle Johnston, Ashley Walker, Cassidy Walker, David Walker, Callie Walker, Bryonna Walker, Sidney Pearce, Sage Pearce, Kyle Walker, Hazel Walker, Chloe Walker and Carter Walker. The arrival of great-great granddaughter, Haley Hughes, blessed Florie with the joy of seeing her amazing legacy continue. Her niece Karen Throckmorton and her daughters have always been an important part of her life. During her retirement, Florie attended Bible Study Fellowship and enjoyed growing in her knowledge of God's Word. She was an avid reader and relished time working in her flower garden. Visitation will be at Carr-Tenney Mortuary, 2621 S. Rural Road, Tempe, Friday, May 30 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Greenwood Memorial Park, 2300 W. Van Buren, Phoenix, Saturday, May 31, 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Flora Bell's name, to Hospice of the Valley, Friendship Village, 2525 E. Southern Ave., Tempe, AZ 85282-7741 who blessed the family with the care that was provided to their loved one, or to The Arizona Softball Foundation, Prescott, AZ, which carries on the tradition of promoting softball in Arizona.
