Edmund Moody Layton

LAYTON, Edmund Moody, 71, son of Leslie J. and Janice C. Layton, died Tuesday May 27, 2008.

Eddie is survived by his wife, Jenny; three sons Les, David (Lori) and Michael Layton; a brother, Chris (Joyce); sister, Ann Marie; grandchildren, Danielle, Josh and Trevor Layton.

He was preceded in death by his 2nd son, Eddie Dean.

Eddie was a graduate from Tempe Union High School. He served two years with the Army's 82nd Airborne in Europe. He attended Brigham Young and Arizona State Universities. Eddie was a farmer, rancher, realtor and owner of Layton Livestock Auction. He was a member of the Arizona Cattle Grower's Association and Pinal County Sheriff's Posse. In retirement, Eddie took great pleasure in being with his family and enjoyed his associations with friends at church and with the community.

As a great-great-grandson of Utah pioneer and Arizona settler, Christopher Layton, Eddie helped arrange the placement and dedication of Christopher Layton's statue in the Presidio Plaza in downtown Tucson. The statue commemorates the passing of the famed Mormon Battalion through Tucson in 1846.

Eddie bravely battled Leukemia for nearly two years. He passed peacefully on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 and will be sorely missed.

A viewing will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Marana from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m.

Funeral Services will immediately follow.

Internment will follow at the Thatcher, AZ Cemetery. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & CEMETERY. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Leukemia Society, Tucson, Arizona.
