Earl L. Nester, 83, of Mesa, AZ, passed away April 18, 2003.

Services will be in Burt, Iowa. Arrangements handled by Bunker's Desert View Chapel.

NESTER, Earl L.

Earl L. Nester, 83, passed away Friday, April 18, 2003 in Mesa, AZ. He was born September 28, 1919 in Reeder, ND. He was the 6th child born to John and Clara (Tews) Nester. His four brothers, Victor, Elmer, Albert and Orin are deceased. His one sister, Edna Nester Nordahl lives in Bowman, ND.

Earl, his parents, brothers and sister were all raised on the family farm near Reeder, ND. He was confirmed in the Lutheran Church of Reeder and attended the Reeder School, graduating in 1938. He attended Mankato Commercial College and worked in Mankato before he and his friend, Raymund Forst, started their own typewriter shop in Worthington, repairing and selling new machines.

After Mr. and Mrs. Forst moved back to Mankato, Earl started his own business, selling and laying new carpet and ceramic tile. He did this for several years until he retired due to an automobile accident at the age of 48. Mr. Nester was a Scoutmaster and worked on the District level for over ten years, during which time he earned the Silver Beaver Award. He took a troop to the National Jamboree in PA and had 3 boys who earned their Eagle Scouts Award.

Earl and his wife, Zelpha (Pratt) Nester, were winter visitors to the Mesa area since 1976. In 1990 they sold their home in Worthington, MN and have been full-time AZ residents. He was a member of the Velda Rose United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife, Zelpha of almost 60 years (April 25th); son, Jerry and wife April, daughter, Connie and husband Steve and grandson, Larry.

Burial will in Burt, Iowa at a later date. Arrangements handled by Bunker's Desert View Chapel.
