June 17, 1939 – May 29, 2008

Mary Louise Hill, 68, of Paulden, Ariz., passed away on May 29, 2008.

Mary was devoted to her family. She gave all that she was and all that she had unselfishly in order to see her family succeed in every way. Their lives are a reflection of that. And though she will be greatly missed, we rejoice with the angels as she has come to her heavenly resting place.

Mary is survived by her mother, Ruth Gilpin; daughters Terri McPherson and Kim Pratt; stepson John Knapp; stepdaughter Lori Ulabarri; sisters Pat Keberlein and Barbara Cook; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and 13 nieces and nephews.

Born to Lionel and Ruth Gilpin, Mary lived most of her life in and around Paulden. She grew up helping with the family business, eventually owning Gilpin’s RV Park. She retired as postmaster after serving 52 years with the postal service, 24 of which were as postmaster at Paulden. Mary was always interested in keeping the history of Paulden and the surrounding area alive and assisted with gathering information for “Paulden Pioneers,” a book written by her mother.

Mary inherited the love of music from her parents and was well known for playing her guitar and singing. She joined the Arizona Old-Time Fiddlers and participated in “jamborees” across the state.

After 17 years with the Old-Time Fiddlers, Mary finally learned how to play the fiddle. The AOTFA entertains at several facilities around the tricity area.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chino Valley Ward, 441 Perkinsville Road, Chino Valley, Ariz., with burial at the Mountain View Cemetery in Prescott.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arizonan Old-Time Fiddlers Scholarship Fund, a fund that is set up to help aspiring young fiddlers with lessons with a certified fiddler instructor. Donations can be sent to Ruth Gilpin, Treasurer, P.O. Box 297, Paulden, AZ 86334.
Services entrusted to Hampton Funeral Home.
