| Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Saturday, June 14, 2008 Claude Coupaud, 73, of Goodyear, Ariz., was born March 15, 1935, in Port au Prince, Haiti, passed away June 12, 2008, at Sun West Hospice in Sun City, Ariz. He grew up primarily in France, moved to the United States in 1945 and became a natura lized citizen after he turned 18. Claude studied music for many years and worked as a professional opera singer while living in Chicago, Ill. He moved to Arizona in 1969 and worked primarily in sales thereafter. He owned and operated his own business, Ace Janitor Supply, in Prescott, Ariz., from 1976-1987. In his later years, Claude repaired electronics as a hobby. Claude is the son of Paul Coupaud and Renee (Cloucher) Coupaud, both deceased, and is the youngest of their nine children. His wife Norma, with whom he recently celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary, survives him. He’s also survived by his daughter Denise Hayes (husband Patrick) and grandsons Jeremy, Michael and Zachary of Ill.; son Paul Coupaud (wife Nicholle) and granddaughters Kelly, Bethany and Taylir of Surprise, Ariz.; daughter Rachelle Fernandez and granddaughter Madison of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; son Eric Coupaud (wife Amy) and granddaughters Abbie, Kelsey and Megan of Anthem, Ariz.; son Lance Coupaud (wife Jamie) and grandson Benjamin of Denton, Texas; and son Corey Coupaud of Goodyear, Ariz. He’s also survived by his sister Anne Marie Smith and her family in Miami, Fla., and his half-brother Roger Louis-Charles and his family in Chicago, Ill. His 10 grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, will most certainly miss the dollars that Papa Shu-Shu would regularly hand out to them. Claude and his family would like to thank Dr. Lamar Wall and the other dedicated and caring doctors, nurses and staff at Del E. Webb Memorial Hospital who provided outstanding care for him in his final days, as well as the many friends that came to visit and brighten his days while in the hospital. Claude’s visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, 2008, at Sunwest Funeral Home, 12525 N.W. Grand Ave., El Mirage, AZ 85335. His memorial service will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 16, at Sunwest Funeral Home and Cemetery with committal service to follow at Sunwest.
