Leonard W. Black, 103, of Prescott, Ariz., passed away Friday, Nov. 16, 2007 at the Arizona Pioneers' Home in Prescott.

He was born Feb. 12, 1904, to John Emmitt Black and Zeta Olive Dawson
Black in Montaque, Texas.

His mother passed away when he was 8 years old. He graduated from Portales, N. M., high school. He moved to Prescott in the summer of 1924. He married Alene Helen Jones, Aug. 1, 1931. She passed away in 1969.

He worked on ranches, and in 1927 started working for the 7V ranch in Williamson Valley, Ariz. He spent 10 years in St. Johns, Ariz., running 7V ranches there.

He moved back to 7V Ranch in Williamson Valley, and worked there until he retired in 1972. In 1954, he leased the 7V Ranch and ran his own cattle ranch until he retired. He moved to Camp Verde and lived there until moving into the Pioneer home in 1995. He loved to fish the Verde,
Lake Powell and most of the other lakes in Arizona.

He invented a tractor mounted tree cutter and received a patent on it.

He is survived by his son Delbert L. (Wilda) Black of Wellington, Colo.; two brothers-in-law, Al Jones and Aulton (Betty) Jones; and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2007, at the Arizona Pioneers' Home, 300 S. McCormick St. Prescott, Ariz.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to your
favorite charity or the Arizona Pioneers' Home.
