Joseph J. Verhovec, age 90, passed away at his daughter's home, Aug. 7, 2005, in Prescott. Joseph was born Feb. 20, 1915, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Tony and Ivana (Hren) Verhovec.

He spent many years as a fireman in San Marino, Calif.

Joseph was with Coldwell Banker in California for over 30 years, with the Commercial Real Estate Sign Division. He loved the sea, was an avid fisherman, loved to dance and, as a master gardener, tend his fruit trees.

Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, May, in 2002. He is survived by his daughters, Marilyn J. Brown of Prescott and Linda Schoenmakers of Winnetka, 111., and grandchildren, Lisa C. Brown of Scottsdale and Laurie C. Kibler of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. Joseph was preceded in death by his brothers, Tony Verhovec and Ottie Verhovec, and his sister, Geraldine Lizalek.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 11, at 10 a.m., at the Hampton Funeral Home, 240 S. Cortez St., Prescott. Eric Wade will conduct the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be directed to the Margaret T. Morris Adult Day Care Home Program, 878 Sunset Ave., Prescott, AZ 86305.

The Hampton Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements.
